So having seen some of the fantastic garages on here it has moved me to do something about the floor in mine ( currently concrete. I want to paint it to seal it and then tile half of it ( plastic tiles) so what is the best paint to use and what is the best method ? Roller brush etc

Garage is circa 80m2

Thanks

Phib

The most important thing to get right is the preparation of the concrete floor before painting. My method is as follows:-

1. Sweep floor.
2. Vacuum clean floor (yes, 'hoover' it).
3. Wash floor - mild detergent.
4. Allow floor to dry.
5. Seal floor with proprietary sealant (available at DIY stores).
6. Paint floor (lots of proprietary floor paints available) - roller is OK for 'mass' coverage but will need to fill in with brush where necessary.

Have done 2 garage floors like this with good results but wet car tyres eventually lift the paint where the car is parked so tiles are a good idea.

Make sure you paint the outside edges and keep working inwards towards the middle. It'll make the job much easier, trust me.

Sweep out the worst of the dust, give it a vac, seal with pva/water or garage floor sealer (roller it on), once dry roller on some garage floor paint.

I used International stuff (well that's a lie, I did the first bit (sealed with International stuff) and then decided to put down floor tiles!

In fact, if you are local to me and want to buy a cheap can of grey International floor paint, drop me a message wink

As above, but. You can seal it with a mix of PVA glue and water 50/50. However, if you want a bullet proof floor, one you can drag an engine across and not damage it, it got to be epoxy sealed. Probably the best know is WATCO. http://www.watco.co.uk/ If you happen to have a contact in the building trade, you'll probably be able to get it a bit cheaper, or someone who works in a maintenance department of a building.

And after you have painted the garage, do not park you car in there for a week or 10 days - tyres will lift the paint. if you have to, suggest putting a thick matt where the tyres will rest.

Another, perhaps better, option is to polish it instead. More work and probably more expensive, but gives a more resilient (and probably better looking) finish.

Thanks for info, am going to have ton half at a time mainly due to amount of stuff in garage, plan was to do 75% tiles and the other 25% leave painted as it has a car coon over the top of it anyway.

Noe colour choice

Thanks

What about a vinyl floor? I used a heavy duty vinly for my garage with a tile effect. Works quite well. Just make sure you put some wood down before using anything like a jack or axle stands!
