Justifying expensive tyres

Our (shared car) Golf has picked up a nail in the tyre so we we're left with a bit of a dilema. we can replace the one tyre with a ditchfinder for £65 ish (225/40r18) or I can replace both front tyres with bridgestones (£250ish a pair) to me it's a no brainer I don't buy a decentish car to put s
t tyres on it and ruin the handling but she doesn't really see any benefit of this so how do others get the cost of decent tyres past SWMBO?? I will be putting proper tyres on the car, that's not really in doubt but it will deffinately haunt me for atleast a month or so but surely I'm not the only person that has this problem am i?

Don't know about you but after 'helping clean the house' she ended up doing everything again because i didn't do it right.

Tbh i pick mine on the tread pattern appearance and the feel of the compound. If they look good and aren't as solid as a rock then they should handle well. Summer tyres are P-zero nero's although she is still on the winters at the moment, everytime it gets warm and i think about changing it gets cold and wet again!

I run P Zero Rossos in winter and michelin PSS in summer

I have he falken 452s and they are erectly ok for driving around. The wet handling is no different to my previous toyo t1r's (also worth a look).Get it repaired for £8 if it's not on the side wall? I just stick part worn tyres on my car because I don't plan on throwing it around corners, an whenever I do get decent tyres it seems I only pick up a screw within a few hundred miles anyway. £15 pound a corner I pay for nearly new Bridgestones. I understand the importance of tyres but couldn't justify spend that much on them unless I was using my car on a track. I do however but decent tyres on my motorcycle.

Afraid not the car came with midrange winter tyres on the front (not matching) and ditchfinders on the rear which I'll be changing at some point for something that doesn't grip quite as well as the front but is slightly better than the current ditchys. I should point out that it is a hoot to drive in it's current state but is just a little too tail happy to be quick in anything other then perfectly dry conditions.I shall look into the falkens though if they perform pretymuch as good may aswell save a few quid :-)
Sell the daft 18 inch wheels and replace them with something smaller. The wheel switch shouldn't cost you anything and tyres will be cheaper. 
You don't need to spend that much to get decent tyres anyway. Something like Matador MP46s can be had for 85 quid a corner or Falkens for a bit less.

Just tell her the car weighs a tonne and a half, and the only bit that makes it brake, turn and accelerate is the 20cm of rubber on each side (for the purpose of this argument, the back wheels just keep the exhaust off the floor and can be ignored

I hate ditchfinders too but won't pay premium prices until the tyres I have (Kumhos/Dexteros at present) cause me concern. My car has never lost grip or gone sideways or skidded so I conclude the tyres are doing their job.
I use premium tyres on my Mustang because of the power and even though the same applies, it has sufficient power and weight and RWD that one day it might make a difference what tyres I use.
