I was reading in Autocar the other day that it actually took more water to wash your car with a bucket than with a hose. So are we going to see some dirty cars at Sunday Services.

Both of mine need a clean but neither are getting it.

No hosepipe ban down here on the Isle of Wight so cleaning as usual, ie a nice careful handwash when I can be arsed and a run through the car wash and associated feelings of guilt when I can't. . . . . biggrin

Proven on radio 4 too.

I'm doing my bit for the environment and still using a hose (jokes)

I take it to the cleaners in London. Still the same routine.

That's what all the rain is for. Gets a lovely wash down every night at the moment.

Thats the thing, if your job involves using a hose you can carry on using it. So I could pay someone to wash my car with a hose but I can't do it myself.

For the longest time, I had it in my head that a pressure washer used loads of water compared to just a normal wash with two buckets and a rinse with a normal hose.

Wasn't until I tried filling a bucket of water up with a pressure washer that I realised just how little water they use.

Hosepipe bans make little sense when they ban the cleaning of cars, IMO.

No difference to me as I've always used two buckets and that's it. No reason for a car to remain dirty.

One to wash, one to rince?

Wouldn't be cleaning my car either way.

That's what immigrants* are for.

One for water for the car, the other bucket to rinse all the st into.

I was told jet washes were fine, don't hold me to it though.

Yep, maybe if they realise that hosepipe bans make bugger all difference they will start fixing their infrastructure.
I have also started having baths instead of showers.

It takes even less with a pressure washer. Most noticeable, washing the car.. Pressure washer, it hardly made the floor wet at all. Hose, abit more water but not over the top.. Bucket, water everywhere running down the road.

They're idiots. I'm still cleaning my car, and wasting more water doing it with a bucket, but their rules.

The hosepipe ban has made no difference to my car washing routine. I'll take it to the local carwash next spring the same as I do every year. biggrin

How are they allowed to limit us anyway. I pay on a meter, so I'm paying for what I use. It's not my fault their infrastructure is ste.

I believe they get fined for all this leaking water, but its no where near as much as it'd cost the water companies to fix the problem. Maybe the fine 3 times the cost to fix and they might do something about it.

I doubt washing the car is necessarily what they're worried about when they impliment hosepipe bans. Hardly necessary at the moment with the rain we've had but I see a lot of people that will get the hose out, attach a sprinkler and water the garden for hours at a time! Put everyone on a meter IMO and watch water usage drop drastically overnight.

Must admit that's a good point, loads of stuff in the media about hose pipe bans but the papers are well known for making stuff up. Has anyone actually recieved some form of notifaction from thier water company?
