MR2 Roadster vs MX-5
Discussion
I've owned an MR2 Turbo and an MX5. I'd probably say the MR2 Turbo is the best of the lot. But, thinking about it, I'd probably have an MX5 over a mk3 MR2. The MX5 is just a little more playful in terms of handling, neither the MX5 nor the mk3 MR2 can dream of getting near the Turbo for excitement or speed.
The reason there is not more love for the MR2 Roadster here? Probably because the MX5 is cheaper, more widely available and more fun to thrash about. I'd take the MR2 for GT type duties and the MX5 for thrilling sideways-out-of-every-junction type action.

I think the MR2 Roadster wins hands down for looks. There are a couple round here with body-cloured hard tops and they look great.
Not driven a mk3 MR2, but I'd imagine it to be like a less powerful, less agile Elise (I mean those as compliments I hasten to add). Plus, being a Toyota you'd expect it to be every bit as reliable as the MX5, and probably rather more efficient.
Downsides would have to be a lack of space and less scope for doing big skids in the wet.
