Well guy wants to pay 10% deposit first. He's picking up the car in 10 days time.
I'm in Sheffield, he's in oxford.

Bank transfer is the quickest and safest way,i would avoid bankers drafts as quite a few cases of stolen ones being used.

Had this recently and went with cash, you can always do as said above and pay it in before releasing the car if you're worried. I didn't - was lovely seeing all those notes, especially as it was a mix of £50, £20, £10 and some £5 so it was an impressive stack of cash!

NB - The banks are a PITA if you try paying in a lot at once though.

I'm selling mine through eBay within the week. I was going to say PayPal. Do you think that could be a mistake? Should I insist on cleared money in my account?
I wouldn't go near PayPal with a barge pole for that!!

+2. Just don't do it. They can "pay" via paypal and then do a chargeback (or whatever terminology Paypal use for fking people over), and you will lack any form of standing device.

It is mildly unlikely that this will happen, but it can.

I've seen a few adverts where the seller is asking for a bank transfer, as a buyer I wouldn't trust the transfer as depending on banks they take time to clear and the seller could disappear etc during the clearing time.

I think the safest option is cash deposit in to the sellers bank.

Definitely wouldn't use paypal, bank drafts etc I've had too many con artists try it on in the past. Luckily my bank caught the stolen draft but I sent an item on paypal and then the buyer claimed he never recieved and took the item and the cash back.

Personally I wouldn't bother with the deposit.

Both of you go to the bank together regardless of getting/deposit cash or bank draft.
