I'm pondering a weekend toy.
The main use will be for gentle b-road touring taking me and wifey to pubs/hotels and perhaps the odd continental jaunt.
Budget: Really would like to get out for under £15k and running costs under £500/year on basis of around 3k miles. Could go to £30k but at that price I want the car to be depreciation proof.

What would you get?

I don't think you'll run any car for 500 quid a year for 3000 miles? Petrol alone will probably cost that unless it's a smallish diesel and insurance and tax combined will probably be of that order, too.

Surely the only way to arrive at a country pub in style:

Apologies. £500 servicing costs. Fuel costs are a factor - and the first thing I thought when I opened the above link to a Monaro - but at 3k or less miles a year I don't really mind. Tax and Insurance are insignificant as they will be (effectively) the same on any car I might end up getting.

No need for £15k even. There's a world of Merc SL's out there for sale. Worth considering if nothing else and most women love SL's wink

That Healey and the Mk2 Jag would have been my first two suggestions too.
