Hi

I had an old clio on my drive for some time. It was due to be picked up for scrap today.

I moved it off my drive last night as I had guests over, and parked it on the road (very quiet area) for it to be picked up today.

This morning it's gone. It didn't have tax, test or insurance, so I'm wondering whether it's been seized? It's not the scrap company that's taken it already, I've checked.

Can believe it's been stolen; it was a bugger to start and I have the only key.

Can it be seized overnight just like that?! Who would I find out from?

I know I shouldn't have parked it on the road without it being legal, that's my fault.

Thanks

Depends where you are but if in a big city it has probably been seized. Around here in the wilds of Wiltshire it could sit there for days and only attract the interest of passing crows.

I'm not sure but don't they usually stick notices all over it for a while before they take it away?? Surely someone would have seen a low loader with flashing yellows all over it outside too? On balance of probability I'm saying stolen.

Ring the police non-emergency number and enquire.

Only thing is, I don't want to leave myself in the lurch with impound/recovery fees when I was only going to scrap it anyway if that makes sense.

If it isn't the scrappies, ask the police if it has been removed. If not it has been stolen. Does this really require asking about? confused

Maybe a neighbour wanted rid of it and saw that as their chance to report it although would have expected it to take longer than a fri nite report sat morning remove.

Will ring the police later on 101 and see what they say.

Wonder if the pikies have had it.

Be surprised if it was taken legitimately between 9 last night and 9 this morning, especially as it's the first time it's been on the road in a very long time.

A friend of mine recently had a Saab to scrap. He phoned several scrappies, and mentioned where the car was. It wasn't long before one of them just came and helped themself. Did you phone around a few scrappies, and did they know where the car was?

All that jazz

I would say it was scrapped and send a note to the dvla to such and forget about it. i would guess someone in a hi viz coat with a twang of the guiness took it..

Should he be calling them and admitting his car was on the road with no tax/ mot/ insurance

He doesn't have to tell them that. He can simply say his carnies missing, and has it been impounded for some reason. All he needs to do is know if they, or the authorities have it, or not.

I would be paying a visit to the scrappies you belled up and taking a walk around their yards....

Over here, I think an untaxed car is clamped for either 12 or 24 hours before being seized and towed.

At least that was the case when I left a car in the street and went for lunch, with the trade plates clearly displayed in the window, only to come back and find it clamped for no tax. They removed it FOC though.
