Was listening to a 2004 Mondeo TDCI exiting a multi storey today and just thought, this must be one of the most horrible sounding cars out there! Very similar to a transit with that horrible whine when pulling away! These old shape Mondeo TDCIs seem to have got really noisy with age and mileage. In fact, is it me or do most dervs just get rattlier with age?

as for petrol cars, the old Ford Ka -horrible, horrible rattly old engine! (is this a Ford thing?)

Anyway, what are other peoples candidates for worst sounding cars?!!

That's an old OHV 1.3 engine from the victorian age if my facts are correct wink

As for other crappy engine sounds, most 4pot dervs, and the new GT86 sounds rather dull too.

I own a diesel Mondeo. I call it the correctional facility. Generally its used for kid duties and when I have been spending too much time in my Cayman. It sounds st. Simple as that. st...

The Endura-E engines used in the old Fiestas and Ka due become noisier with age due to the tappets I'm lead to believe.
The Corsa C's engine sounds like a sowing machine on steriods, especially the 1.0 3 cylinder.
There's an Alpha 147 JTD next door, from a cold start it sounds like a bag of spanners in a washing machine!

1979 Talbot Sunbeam.

The only four stroke engine, ever, to sound like it suffered from the piston-slap of a knackered two stroke Kawasaki triple.

All four cylinder engines. Doesn't matter if petrol or diesel, they sound st. Which unfortunately is all you hear these days.

Disagree on two counts that I can think of. The Subaru boxer engine and some of the Mitsubishi MIVEC engines, the one in my mate's FTO sounded superb at high revs.

Regardless of whether you personally like them or not, you should appreciate them for sounding different... Having a balanced view of things, which somestimes finds you praising things that you don't personally like shows a level of intelligence and understanding... Oh, a general PH rant seems to have come out!
