Anybody any experience of the variety of systems fitted to Audi A6, Mercedes E Class or BMW 5 series?

Which ones show you dynamic traffic info, your current location and have full postcode use?

Think you need to be specific in model years, as the E39 5 series (96 - 03 ish) had both CD rom based sat nav (crap) and DVD based, which was pretty good. E60 5 series (2004+) all have DVD, so ok.

The early A6 small screen sat nav, again CD rom is rubbish but the later RNS-E DVD based wide screen nav is pretty good.

No experience of the Mercedes systems so can't comment on that.

How old a car are you looking at? I know my dad 6 series has a street name only nav which is ste. Some are part postcode and other like said street name & number.

Ultimately you'll be better off with a £150 tomtom or similar as they're updatable via your computer. Car ones need new discs which are £100+. However, you do then need to be sticking the portable nav to your screen everytime so can be a pain with wires in the 12v power supply.

A6 >04 RNS-E DVD nav, 04> MMI DVD nav and 09> HDD nav are all part post code but work fairly well. Brand new A6 (12 on) does full post code and lots of whizzy Google bits depending on spec.

Looking at brand new cars rather than used, brochures for each car don't really give a lot of info to allow you to compare, and find a car with the right kit in to try isn't easy!
