Best way to insure 2 cars
Discussion
Afternoon all,
I've tried the usual multi car quotes from the usual companies and they are quite frankly rubbish.
I have my E39 530D for doing my commute and a boring 25k miles PA in effortless comfort with bags of torque and economy.
However I am also looking at a weekend toy like an S2000, MR2 etc... something along those lines.... a convertible with a nice engine in as I REALLY miss the sound and revs of a petrol car.
This car would only do 3-4k tops per year so purely for pleasure. I Also like the convenience of having two cars so that I wouldn't be stranded if one needed maintenance etc.
So, what is the best way to insure two cars in my name? Obviously I can't use the no claims twice with most companies, so who does mirror no claims? Or is there another way round this? I see people on here with 5/6/7/8 cars, how do you insure them all? I'm not that greedy, I only want two
Any input would be appreciated,
Thankyou
Ryan

I've found the cheapest way to insure is first car with admiral and 2nd car with Lancaster with a classic car policy, £400 for the c2 and £120 for the mr2, would have been over £700 for the mr2 on admiral with the c2 on top.
mine is only a 1.6l 1989 mk1 so I got a classic quote but they should be worth a try, hope that helps.

LV will do this - two of my cars are with them for this reason i.e one is a commuter (25K miles annum SD&P inc business use) whilst other is insured SD&P with restriction of commute to only one place of work (10K miles per annum) car. Essentially, they mimmick my full NCD with protection whilst they operate as two separate policies.
You need to speak with an agent who has some grey matter and experience.
God forbid you should get a "keyboard operator"----------->"the computer says, no"

I think the refusal to mirror NCB is b***cks. You can't drive both cars at once can you!I've tried the usual multi car quotes from the usual companies and they are quite frankly rubbish.

I know, that's my point exactly, can't drive both at once!
But I suppose I also see it from their side - any second car would still be open to a fire or theft risk, but surely 2 premiums worth of business with them should negate this fact...
Anyone got any other suggestions on insuring 2 cars?

I have used admiral previously who mirrored my NCB across. A year later I then went elsewhere as it was much cheaper (with then a full NCB) to use a specialist for the toy car... Shop around is the answer, but also push with your current insurer to mirror all or part of your NCB...
This.Admiral will mirror your NCB from one car to another, as long as there are less named drivers than vehicles. So if its just you named across both cars you should be able to use your NCB on both cars.
Then, as Mr Moonraker states, after one year they send out your proof of NCB, one cert with equal years for each car. I did this and went from desperate quotes totalling over £700, to a multi car policy for less than £500, then two desperate policies for less a year later.

Ah Admiral really..I tried their multi car policy and it wasn't at all reasonable, maybe this is more for 5+ cars plus when I only want 2?
I've just been through this with Admiral last month. Years ago I had a second car, with mirrored no claims. This gave full no claims to both. Last month, the default is that they use the no claims on 1 vehicle, and the other is o no claims .... which kind of misses the point. All I had to do is ask politely, the operator on the phone goes to the manager. The response was that they don;t do it as standard, I asked if they can make an excepting in my case and presto matched no claims. So there is multi car .... and then there is multi car with matched no claims.
Just my experiences.......
I found admiral multicar to be good when we just had two cars. (mine and the wifes) however after a year the premium went up dramatically and i searched elsewhere. Admiral did offer to match, but by that stage they had lost my business.
So now i have two seperate policies for myself and the wife to drive our main cars. Then i have another two policies ( classic and limited mileage ) on my 1991 mx5 (costing £107) and my t25 van (£186). One policy through Performance Direct and the other through a van specialist. I have zero no claims on either of these policies, but they do ask about other car ownership which i presume drops the premium......
Which remind me, i must sell my mx5 before the missus remembers we have so many motors at the moment.
