Many years ago I used to find them in the back of Fast Car, CCC or Motoring News

There are a few on Ebay but they are hard to find if you aren't after a specific model.

Rarely found on Autotrader either.

The new search on here is a great help but the number of ads has halved since they started charging for them.

So where else should I be looking are there any good forums that aren't make /model specific ?

Thanks

Depends what you're after really. Modified as in engine conversions and tuning? Or styling modifications?

I usually look in road legal track cars on here. Usually some interesting cars. But tbh it's hard to search generally for it, you usually need a rough idea of what you're looking for. I.e. Honda Civic with K20a then looking for them specifically..

Engine mods / transplants - with the exception of the new PH search it's impossible to find them unless I trawl though every ad.

The recent cars I've seen which I've been tempted by:

Ebay - Supercharged 350Z (really I need a 2+2)
Ebay - Cerbera with Rover V8 (I think it's too expensive and I'd struggle to sell it on)
PH - RX7 with LS1 engine (I didn't spot it until it was sold)

This has been up for sale for a long time

http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/sales/1636085.htm

Ok, the interior is horrible, as are the blingy wheels, but you can't argue with 9 second quarter mile times. Not that I'd want to test that out too many times if I bought it. It's probably the hideous aesthetics that mean it has remained unsold. I have seen this car on the road, along side it at 70mph, it floored it and took off like a rocket, I've never seen acceleration like it.

Owners clubs forums. Generally if the owners modify the heck out of a car, they're part of an owners club!

I was hoping for other general sites / forums rather than one make / model specific ones as there are simply too many if just looking for a fast RWD car.

Have you tried Driftworks? A few modified things knocking around on there.

Can you not search on eBay in the motors section for the word modified in the title and description?!

I'd have thought owner's forums are the best places. Very very specialist cars are unlikely to be advertised on Ebay or even Pistonheads as the buyers will want complete confidence that the conversion has been done by an expert and not somebody strapping on a China Charger and upping the boost.

My 260bhp MX5 is unlikely to be advertised anywhere other the MX5Nutz, as anyone outside that forum is unlikely to appreciate all the other mods that have been done to make it what it is. I realise 260bhp ain't massive power, but when in a car weighing 900kg it makes things quite fruity.

That link just cost me an hour. I know where I'm going when I win the lottery. Stuff a track version of a production car - I'm grabbing a trailor and a stickered up ex race car!

How about a a supercharged V8 in an MX5 :

http://www.mx5nutz.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=9...

I realise it's not for sale, but chuck enough money at something and you'll get a solution.

I love my RV8, but I'm not sure why you would put one in a Cerb. Even the 5.0 RV8 is down on power compared to the "standard" Cerb Speed6 or AJP 4.2/4.5.

If you want a transplant in a Cerb, I think you are looking for a big capacity yank LS engine!

Certainly a quick car with lots of money thrown at it but I'd join you and question it's longevity if used in anger. They took a lot more care with this than they did their customer cars (mine included) but I still wouldn't buy it unless it was stripped and rebuilt by someone trustworthy. There are more road-friendly examples for sale every day on MKIVSupra.net for much less money, as someone above said the owners clubs are usually the best place to look for the "known" cars.
