Boring 'what car' for my mother. £6k

Exactly as it says on the tin - my mother needs a new car up to about £6000. She needs the space, so looking at medium sized estates. Diesel would be nice but not that important as her mileage isn't that high. Must be automatic. Most important thing is reliability - she's getting on a bit and the most she really wants to have to to do is have it serviced once a year.

I was thinking of

Mondo estates
Focus estates
Passat estates
Volvo estates (which ones?)
Skoda roomster (though really don't like the looks)

And as an alternative - Honda CRV.

I know it sounds like a silly question, but not having kids etc. I've never really looked at this class of car and know very little about them. All help greatly appreciated!
