Ok, I have recently picked up a 1.7 Puma Black Ed. Took it on a track session at Lydden Hill, all was well. So the brakes were a weak point but besides that it was great, just so neutral! The tyre's fitted to the car are Michelin Pilot Sport Exalto PE2's, I would like to keep these for the road and run some track only tyre's as they are great in all conditions. Its a choice between Toyo T1R's or Yokohama Prada Spec2's, has any one run these on a sub 1100kg car on track? At the moment I am attending autocross, public track days and the ring. So, no need for R888's and such like not entering any competitions just yet!

Look forward to your opinions,

Best.

Lew

T1R's will always get my vote for a sub 1300kg car.

Had them for wets on my Astra, great tyre for the money.... Excellent wear rate aswell when comparing how much grip they have when warm.

They are very sensitive to the right / wrong tyre pressures.

I like the T1R's on my Clio on track, but they seem to be a bit of a marmite tyre. The Pradas seem to have a greater percentage of happy Clio owners judging by the forums.

I have had both one after another on my Fiesta ST and if I wasnt about the change the car id make sure I put another set of Yoko's on there. They are not as good in the wet. I found the T1R's had slightly more grip but let go less progressively BUT were far better if you hit standing water at pace.

In the dry the Yokos are so much better. They grip so hard once warm and seem to have a stiffer sidewall so are very sharp! Hope this helps.

I have used both on my old Golf VR6.

In my opinion you could feel what the car was doing better on the Toyos. The Yokos seemed to ultimately grip better but they were slightly less predictable. I felt more confident pushing it on the Toyos as I could feel what the car was doing more.

Obviously this varies between what works on the car and different driving styles, but you won't be dissapointed with either tyre for the money.

Going to pick up a set of Prada Spec2's from Camskill, a bargain at £46.50 a tyre me thinks.

Good choice. The Yokos aren't the best tyres in the world, but they should give you a much more pleasing steering feel than the softwalled Toyos.

No, not the best tyre in world, I would go for something more extreme if I were running the Puma as a track only car, but I'm not so...

No need really. I tested track vs road back to back and had more fun with the road tyres!

Shame they dont do the Toyo T1 Sport in your size yet, way better than the T1R it replaces.

I've had both in the past on a couple of different cars. I'd go with Parada's all day long.

You need something with good stiff sidewalls for track use ie not a Toyo T1.
