Never paid much attention to these and thought they were just a slightly perkier normal petrol TT, totally overshadowed by the TTRS and a bit overlooked, nowhere near, not that fast in comparison, a bit neither hear nor there.

A chap at work and I got talking about cars and he was on about the TTS he had just bought and how it could do 0-60 in less than 5 seconds, I thought he must have got confused with the RS but looking at the stats with the S-Tronic box and using the launch control sub 5 seconds has been acheived, 0-100 in less than 12, must say, quite impressed with the on paper figures from what isnt that much power these days, I suspect a Focus RS driver would get a bit of a shock.

Sounds quite impressive, i guess it just has its thunder stolen by the RS, which was made a big hoopla about since in some cases it can go toe to toe with an R8 (V8 model mind you)

TTRS is a bit, forum wise, the new 335D.

4WD + lunch control + turbo torque = good 0-60 time. But what about some turns and twists?

Having driven plenty of TT-S and TT-RS on road and track there's one very good summary image I have for them.

Should imagine, based on the reviews I read, the fact it has 4wd, rigid body, stiff suspension, low c of g, wide tyres, various electonics and is marketed as a sports car of sorts I would imagine it corners faster than most would need on the road, even meant to be a decent steer based on the reviews, not sure it would be a no 1 choice for a track day but I reckon it is very capable.

That is a safety thing, I know you can change the setup to bias them move to oversteer but would imagine you have to be going very fast on the road to get terminal understeer like the picture.

Surely it would be safer if they went where the steering wheel was pointing. . . . . . scratchchin

Actually… after checking the times on the fastestlaps I must say that this is a very capable car.
Probably not the best track tool but I imagine that it is easy to drive fast in a daily driving.

I suspect that up to fairly insane speeds they do, dont think they will be like some old fwd shopping hatch on ditchfinders

^^^^^^ This. On everyday roads where space is at a premium there's not a lot can keep up - I've had three TTs and humbled many a Porker and Bimmer. In the wet there's not a lot of contest - in moving to the current Z4 I have had to re-learn that getting back on the throttle at the apex of bends can induce some really lairy cum exciting moments!!

Does it not make the steering wheel difficult to hold?

You'd probably need to change the 4wd system to make it proper fun on track! While the RS never really felt like a fast car on the road, it has masses of grip in the corners. It was just so dull!

Grip grip grip grip grip understeer more understeer lift yawn.

I have owned a TT and driven a TT S - both are shocking on handling - the 0-60 time is right but the set up time to get it to do that means that billy traffic light racer in his saxo vtr will be 200 yards down the road anyway.

I always loved the TT and still think the first shape is a great looking car but its handling is a joke .. almost dangerous !

It's the ingredients that make up the TT-S that does it no favours. The Golf chassis and engine (a turbo'd transverse 4-cylinder - not the 5-cyl 2.5T in the RS remember) the haldex 4wd system (i don't want to get into a big debate about it) the styling (IMO) is a bit tired and common now and not to mention the £35 odd grand asking price (before options).

I'm not saying it's a bad car though, it does have good points like the interior and the fact it would make a decent daily road car. But speed isn't everything and bear in mind there are far too many 'proper' sports cars out there to choose from with equally decent interiors and capable all rounders. That's its problem.
