Is this a new scam? Beware good samaritons of the road!
Discussion
Well coming of the m25 onto the slip road and i see a short well suited and booted chap in a Gold renualt megane with the bonnet up and hazards on, soon as he clocks me he is running on the road hands waving etc, so being the nice chap i am i stopped, he immediately came running to my open window.
He the proceeds to tell me he has ran out of fuel and needs 50 quid to fill up, he has No money!
And whats my reward, he pulls off his gold rings and watch, at this point the whole thing smelt funny, plus he sounded romanian or turkish, so i decided to oscar foxtrot. Was i wrong?

Was it an Oskar Emil watch?

I would have disappeared into the sunset at that point. Quite a good idea though. Need to try it out, the misses birthday this month.
This particular scam was quite popular in germany one or two years ago, don't really know if the problem is still there. It was shown that the "jewelry" was worth as much as a can of golden paint from your local hardware store.
If someone is interested here an article, unfortunately in german:

Edited; the scam is known as "Autobahngold"

Yep, exact same happened to me: I saw a woman with a baby standing next to a broken down car, I pulled over and a foreign guy with gold teeth leapt from the back seat of the car and told me a sob story about how they had run out of fuel and he would give me his gold ring in exchange for money. I'm only a little lad so I was a bit worried about what was about to transpire, especially as he had proceeded to get into my car and was now sitting in the passenger seat. By a stroke of luck a police car drove past and the guy was off like a shot, I flagged the policeman down and told him the details of the car etc.

Yeah, really. Am I being thick (it's been known) and missing the obvious? What use is opening the bonnet?
Because it gets people to pull over. If his bonnet wasn't up you might just think he was parked up, if you see a guy at the side of the road with his bonnet up you're more likely to stop for him. Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
