Am I alone in never wanting an auto/tiptronic at any cost?

I seem to be alone! I have a e90 330d m sport touring for everyday - considered a 335d momentarily until of course realised that I couldn't get a 335d manual. Yes, I know it's quicker, more torque etc than my 330d but I just cannot ever imagine wanting an auto - irrespective of how much torque it would have, how easy in traffic etc. I'm also amazed on here (of all places) how often I read that people were suspicious of autos until they had one, and now they love it (because it's so effortless). has anyone ever loved one because an auto is BETTER to drive, more thrilling, more visceral, more fun, better feedback, more control - in fact anything whatsoever that petrol heads generally enjoy, even in my pretty ordinary commuting car....!? Just cant imagine driving without the mechanical shift... and yes, I have tried an auto, even owned a tiptronic!
depends what car it's on.
something that isn't built for all out performance could suit manual better, for instance, I have driven a manual and an auto jeep cherokee. though the manual was a smaller engine, then auto was much beter suited for this vehicle. Made the driving much more fun and enjoyable.

I think I'm amongst the automatic gearbox's most ardent detractors, but if I was somehow forced into a commute that involved driving entirely in heavy, stop-start traffic I wouldn't even consider a manual.
With my current commute, I'd rather walk than drive an auto, though.

Currntley have a Chim which just makes the case for manual perfectly!
However in the Jag XJS I owned the autobox suited it perfectly. Horses for courses, different cars suit different boxes. Planning on getting a 560 SEC Merc soon (owned a lesser engined W126 before) which would just be wrong with a spanish box, as wrong as an auto TVR would be!

Having being a petrol head since young, I covered around 150,000 miles thinking I'd hate an auto, couldn't get my head around liking one.
But then I drove an R-Line Tiguan with the 6 speed auto for about 1000 miles. I absolutely loved it. Since then I really wanted a DSG box permanently.
It took me a while, but I got the Fabia vRS with the 7 speed DSG and love it!
Now I'll always prefer a good auto (Not an old slushy one!)

Well Tiptronic is just a brand of auto, complete with torque converter. I love having auto on my Cayenne which is a vehicle I hack...lots of long distance towing,offroading, winter snow, and is never garaged.
Was not clear if you were using Tip as being the same as a modern DSG/sequential shift. I have gotten to like these a lot. Much faster shifts and crisper rev matches on downshift then I use them in manual mode. Different animal to a traditional auto box. I have driven a lot of DSG equipped cars and will almost certainly equip my next performance car with one, though I will hang onto my existing shift cars.

Struggling with this myself as I'm currently looking for something Volvo flavoured with the T5 engine, but the majority of cars seem to be automatic. I had an S70R auto before and also a 850 T5 manual and yet I still don't know which I'd rather. I always viewed manuals as more involving, better on fuel and nor do they sound like they're constantly over-revving but the auto is a stronger system plus my left knee isn't great and cracks after prolonged clutch use, especially with a heavy commercial spec clutch that Volvo insisted on using in the 90's.

Modern autos are so good, my present drives are a S3 and a Navara.
Both great gearboxes that always seem to be in the gear you want them to be, and of course you have the paddles on the S3.
My Sylva Striker however, with a 1970s mk1 escort auto box is something else, can never make its mind up, still a great car to drive, but the gearbox isn't a patch on the modern ones.

Have 2 manuals at the moment, have had numerous autos in the past and completely fine with them. Notable one was a 325i auto which changed gear quicker than I could, and had semi manual which was handy at roundabouts to avoid it changing up half way round. Only thing it didn't like was reversing up hill, got a bit binary with the throttle
I didn't go looking specifically for automatics, but found nice cars that had an auto gearbox
