My 156 JTS Lusso was an understeering heap of st that broke down 7 times in 11 months. Broke down as in major work back to the dealers.

A friend of a friend has a 147 petrol 1.6ltr. Reliability.... Um not at all. Maybe it's a lemon or been treated badly.
Id happily have the GTA version though

Like most £1k cars you could pick up a gem or a dog.

Any car can be a money pit if its not looked after. Ive just bought a mint 147 JTD Ti on 90k (55plate) and its a fantastic car, granted some of the older Alfa's arent built too well but most of the recent ones are fine, the diesels especially.

Just check out all things you normally would on a car, make sure the cambelt has been done recently, make sure the suspension doesnt make any dodgy noises and also make sure everything electrical works!

Parts arent particularly expensive either.

Ive owned a 156 for three years. It is now heading towards 100k.

TBH Ihave been pleasantly surprised. It has never let me down at the roadside. It has only just thrown up an expensive bill for various front suspension components (about £500).

So,you could do worse than an Alfa. Just check for play in thesuspension components. Other than that check thecambelt has been recently done..
