I could be wrong, but the number plate and poor spec mean that this car stinks of ex-Met Police to me, I had no idea they disposed of their cars with such low genuine mileage

Surely no one will buy that with an interior in that state - you can see the repositioned heater controls are pushing the tops of the transmission tunnel apart for starters. The steering wheel looks awful too.

If you can get the MOT cert number, you can pull up the MOT history.
Would the Police have their own MOT test bay?

It's not prefacelift.

It's an ex police E39. All the police spec E39's were EU specification cars - hence the amber lights despite being a facelift, the non-multifunction wheels and the crappy twirly knob HVAC controls. Most of them were silver.

Do not buy one. There is simply no need, it's not as if a decent non-crap-cop-spec one is expensive.

A quick google reveals that this particular car was aquired by the Metropolitan Police in Feb 2005 and allocated to Denton. It seems they've only been shot of it for 18 months or less.

The whole cop cars have been secretly chipped is BS, you'll even get some of the police mechanics swearing it was done but the idea just doesn't wash.

They'd just go out and buy a car that is as fast as they need it to be.
Making a police Vectra faster than a regular Vectra isn't going to help them chasing down a stolen Porsche!

Out of interest, where did you get that info on the car? I tried googling the plate number, there were plenty of similar police hits, but that's because there's a lot of people collecting photos of police cars and listing their reg numbers.

I'd probably imagine it is missing 100k from the true mileage. I'm usually amazed at how unsubtle the clockers can be.
There's probably 15 year old rusty transits appearing with delivery mileage only.

Second result on google was the answer to an FOI request asking for a list of registered police vehicles. It wsa on the list.

The DVLA record mileage when a car is sold/transferred IF the optional mileage box is filled in.
It would need to change hands a few times and have that box filled in for it to be of any use.
