(Posted this in GG rather than SW because these services seem lightly used and people tend to travel for decent ones! Previous thread in SW forum fairly light on replies)

Folks,

Taking out my [not a moneypit, honest] E36 M3 cab today I was delighted to find that the roof would not open. It's been a bit temperamental in the past at going up- Generally it would work fine once the tailgate had been opened/closed again.

I can only assume that in the past couple of damp weeks there has been a bit of water ingress which has affected this microswitch. Hopefully. I can't think of anything else that would have upset it.

Anyway, I needed to replace the milky rear window at some point so it's not a disaster. I'm looking to get both done at the same time now.

Anyone know of places who do decent work at a decent price within a reasonable day out's distance from Bristol? The only one in Bristol I can find is Bristol Sunroof Centre which doesn't seem to have any reviews anywhere...

Thanks,

Sam

From what I've heard you might be looking at 2 separate jobs?? Decent mechanic for the motor and an upholsterer for the window. I don't know if you'd find an independent that'll do both. Most convertible roof specialists I've seen end up primarily being upholsterers, not sure they'd tackle electrictrickery.

Good shout, although some places advertise full replacements so they must have to do the connection malarkey. I'm fairly sure it's a case of a duff sensor so the diagnosis shouldn't be too tricky.

Anyone? Getting no joy on M3cutters either so might have to do the fault diagnosis myself!

Try calling Jack Smith's in Swansea. Does loads of MX5 roofs, cheap at £260 and good quality. obviously won't be able to fix the roof but might be able to trim it. 01792 461022 is the number

Good shout, thanks, I'm almost minded to sort the electricals myself...
