Hello,

I currently have an issue regarding my insurance and I would like some advise.

I was rear ended a few weeks back in my 1.6 1990 eunos. The car was written off and I have received a settlement. The claim was dealt with by the third parties insurer so I did not have to claim.

With the settlement money I purchased another 1.6 1990 eunos. However my insurance company are refusing to insure me until I am 25 (currently 20 years old) because the car is an import. Even though I have been insured with them on my previous eunos - also an import.

I believe my insurance is going to be cancelled, is there anything I can do?

The insurance company is direct line (I am not naming and shaming) I just believe it is useful to know. Previous threads on ph seem to say direct line treat the eunos as an mx5.

Any help would be appreciated.

Find another insurer and move on ?

I very much doubt you would manage to get anything from here that would convince the insurer to change their mind ... Provided you have already tried convincing them to insure it as an MX-5, like you think they might.

Does it appear on your original policy documents as a Eunos or as an MX5 ??? and on the original policy was it declared as an Import ???

Cancel the policy yourself. If the insurers cancel it then you will have to declare that in the future and they will load your premium heavily as a result IIRC.

Other than that, you'd best get on the phone to some other providers.

I see how this could be very annoying if your quite a way into your policy as you won't be given your NCB. Which is especially annoying when your 20. Sounds odd, if its the same car, they must have changed policy on imports recently.

Yeah it's annoying because I want to keep the Ncb, which is valuable at my age. Also, the previous one was recorded as an import.

Recorded as an import, but as an mx5 because that is how it is on the logbook.

Absolutely this - if the policy is cancelled by them (with 7 days written notice?), you will have to declare this fact each and every time that you take out a new policy, for ever...

Why would you not keep the NCB?

If you've not made a claim.

Presumably because if hes for example ten months into a policy and has two years bonus, by continuing the policy for another 2 months he'll have three years bonus, by cancelling he'll revert back to two?

Probably gone through most of the year now, which he won't get NCB for if he cancels now.

Sure, the "loss" of 1yr NCB would be annoying - but offset that against having to answer "Yes" to:

"Have you or any named drivers on the insurance policy ever had an insurance policy declined, cancelled, voided or had special terms imposed?"

for each and every time you buy insurance, for the rest of your life...

Stuuuu,
Try and find someone who actually knows what they are doing at the insurers and speak to them rather than just a "computer says no" monkey. I had a similar thing when I changed address and moved a massive 500 metres. My insurance didn't want to cover me at my new address even though it was a nicer area (they didn't like the fact it was a multi-level underground car park. They issued a cancellation even though I was 9 1/2 months through the term.

I called them up and got to speak to someone helpful who then contacted the underwriter and got them to accept the address change on the condition they would not quote at renewal time.

There is very little risk for them on the remaining 2 months so you just need to speak to the right person who knows how to use discretion or speak to someone who can.

I think you're answering the wrong question here. The O/P was saying they dont want to not get insurance with their current provider, because they will lose a part year no claims. I dont think they were relating it to their insurance being cancelled?

Just trying to make the OP aware of the potential ramifications if he "lets" his current insurers cancel the policy...
