Mini Cooper Petrol vs Diesel

My Mum is looking at getting a Mini cooper new. As my Dad is a diplomat he gets various discounts which bring the equivalent models down to £15,000 for the 1.6 Petrol and £15,800 for the 2.0 diesel.

She wont be doing much mileage, probably around 10k a year, average driving but she is unsure which to go for.

Usually i would say for that two mileage & the up front costs of a diesel go for the petrol...but when they are both so narrowly priced I am not sure.

Any advice guys?

Depends how long she wants to keep it for. Although thanks to your dad getting the diesel at such a good price you would probably go for that i think. Although the PH in me says a petrol cooper is the only way!

This car will be with her for a very long time. I would say several years+ at least.

I don't understand how the dealership (special NATO one) manages to bring them up to be within £700 of each other when the list price/target price is £3-4k...
