Insurance ****take...
Discussion
Need insurance, left it late as usual and did some quotes online. Got a price I was happy with and phoned up to take them up on it.
Apparently, as I want to pay monthly, I lose out on the discount price offer and it hikes up 50%!!! Am I more of a f
king risk because I choose to pay monthly you f
king greedy
s!!! How does that even make sense! We are already insured with them and I re-quoted as the renewal was s
t (£68 less than this new, pay monthly price!!)..
How is this fair in the slightest? I have a house to run and haven't got £650 to throw at insurance in one go!

Get a loan, get a 0% card, they're the two options
I've got a friend going through this at the second, this was my recommendation. He can't get a credit card as he's 19. As a result I'm driving around in his nice new car on temporary insurance as mines broken
And yes, we did actually go to the bank and apply for a card...

Then you can't afford it. Shop around, or get something cheaper to run. Sorry, them's the facts...
Or find another firm. I know that Home and Legacy do 0% credit over 10 months, but it's a specialist policy.

50% isn't a joke either. £629 was the quote, over £950 if I pay monthly!
With regards to credit card/loan etc.. I'm reluctant as we just bought a house and I doubt I would have much luck if I was to ask for more money so soon.
I will just have to shop around for the cheapest monthly price...

This thread is stupid.
Plan in advance, problem goes away...
Not at all. It could be useful. I started my own business so cash flow is a problem specially funding everything myself. So for instance if a PHer has some useful info then it would save me money and help with my cash flow. Plan in advance, problem goes away...
Don't bother having insurance. What's the worst that could happen? Ah, hang on. You're a hard-working, tax paying contributor to society right? In that case you'd be banged up for 20 years and have your house taken from you.
Got it. Lose your job, lose any assets you have, buy a track-suit then sign on.....THEN drive with no insurance.

I accept that, but I can afford it monthly. I can even afford the new price they quoted me if I pay monthly but I don't understand how I'm 50% more of a risk because I pay monthly.

Pay monthly is effectively credit (you are insured for a year when you take out the policy unless it's some sort of specialist arrangement).50% isn't a joke either. £629 was the quote, over £950 if I pay monthly!

You are paying, through the nose, for not having to fork out however many hundred quid up front at the start of the year. It's your choice as to whether or not you want to do that ... you could always look at the economics of borrowing the money from a third party to pay up front as it could work out less than paying monthly.

The sad thing is that actually might work...Got it. Lose your job, lose any assets you have, buy a track-suit then sign on.....THEN drive with no insurance.
I understand the view that it is basically a credit agreement, but whether I pay now or not, if I have an accident, I still have to pay the agreed excess and still have to go through the same procedure.
I don't really know how else to explain it as I do understand the credit agreement and covering the possible costs bit, but seriously... 50%???
They were great last year for our Multi-car policy. Even when we changed vehicles on it they charged us more for a more powerful car but agreed to remove any admin charges in return. Then this happens...

I know exactly what company your talking about. They used to do 20% apr through a credit firm. Now, £2200 turns into £3700 if you pay monthly! Its rediculous. Smart money pays outright, I've saved up enough for the big hit in July
