Car for my dad????
Discussion
Currently my old man is driving a 2002 Nissan Terrano 2 SWB. Its bumbling its way between one expensive repair and another. He's had it from new so he's had his moneys worth.
He tells me he needs this car for 3 reasons;
1) His commute is from Meltham on the outskirts of Huddersfield to Just inside the M60 in Oldham. Thats 37 miles 90% A roads, directly through the Peak District National Park. There's quite often snow on the tops, infact its snowed up there today in mid May!
2) He has a caravan, that said it hasn't moved from storage for about 3-4 years (thankfully) and its up for sale now.
3) He has a log burning stove at home, which heats the house for most of the winter. He has a reliable source of firewood which allows him to fill a car for £10, which is significantly cheaper than most places you can buy logs from.
He says that a 4x4 is the only option. However I think he's wrong.
I can see the argument for having four wheel drive given his commute, the conditions in the peak district are bleak at the best of times. But i think a four wheel drive car would be more suitable.
According to the Auto Trader website, his current motor is returning 28.8mpg and does 0-62 in 15+ seconds and has a tiny boot.
Suggestions for around £5-8k ?
