The 'O' is the earlier version of the BL/Rover 2.0 four. The 'T' series is the engine that went into the turbo cars of the 90's (coupe, 220, 420, ti and Vitesse etc.).

IIRC the Metro race series with 1.4's had faster lap times than the MX5 race series with 1.6's

So cheap uncool cars are always worse to drive then expensive cool ones

Even standard, the "sportier" metros were pretty decent handling little cars.
