Just wondering - a guy up the road has got one... And either he isn't driving it properly, or its just slow compared to what a modern car with 8 cylinders should be..

I mean, just looking at the numbers, its less than a second quicker to 60 than a V6 x-type jag...

Near enough same 0-60 as a manual X-type and a BMW E34 540i smile

I thought the W8 was really an exotic myth untill one passed me in France a few weeks ago, er indoors thought Id lost the plot when I squeeled with excitement at the sight of a VW Passat!

Also saw endless Dacias including the exciting new 7 seat Lodgy and more C6s in one day then Citreon uk sell in 5 years, oh and a few Phaetons in Germany too, exciting bland but interesting car times!

Never driven one. I remember spotting one once and being quite proud of myself that I managed to identify it. hehe

Sounds it smile Guess they didn't sell many in the UK - not surprising really, considering its consumption figures (and price eek)

Re the Citroen - I saw one in Reading Town Centre the other day - had to look twice :O

We were in France last week and saw a few Dacias, and loads of those funny little Aixams. Kinda wish we'd got one of those as a hire car, rather than the stty (and HUGE!) Corsa.

Sorry, off topic. I've heard they're not as fast as they should be. Also, W8 is stupid, just stick a V8 in.

A friend of my brothers had one in the dark blue metallic, upgraded alloys and lowered slightly. Looked really mean and sounded fantastic.

He'd also got a PHAETON badge and PASSAT badge and merged them to read PHAT ASS which i thought was amusing.

they're not that quick.
They're petrol inefficient waft-mobiles. A Mate has run one for quite a while now. Crap MPg, lacklustre performance, but it's a W8 PASSAT!

I would love one of these, would love to find one with the 6 speed manual gearbox.

I have one. Its my 3rd 8 cylinder wafter, after a C43 AMG and a B10 V8S.
Its slower and a lot less sporty than the previous two, but has them both trumped when it comes to quality of noise....not that the previous two were poor in that aspect, far from it hehe
The slowness doesn't bother me, if anything it means I get to hear the noise for longer as it accelerates, however its a 4wd so much less fun when powering out of a slightly slippery junction.

Not a sports car by any stretch of the imagination, think of it more as a mid-sized Yank style V8 and drive it accordingly. Gorgeous noise, not all that quick but very comfy. Keeps me smiling smile

The only bit of advice I'd give is to find one with a manual 6 speed. I don't have anything against slush matics per se, but the one in the Passat is painfully slow.

I saw an estate one in "panda" livery on the road to Derry a year or two back. They had the ANPR on a tripod at the time, so I'm guessing it was the pursuit car.

Tests at the time said that they were both highly geared in an attempt to improve economy.

Shame... Could have been a hell of a lot quicker then. I don't know why they bothered, the economy is still shocking. hehe

I agree on the noise front though smile
