My wifes beetle's starter motor has been playing up for a few months now. It's been spinning after starting and making horrible squealing noise.

I'd been quoted around £200 to get the starter removed, reconditioned and refitted but instead thought 'how hard can it be' hehe

The answer is, pretty easy. Ok there is a bit of faffing around but armed with a set of sockets and spanners it was off in an hour, reconditioned by a local guy (for £40) and then replaced this evening in 45 mins.

Was brilliant to get it done myself and save a packet, will definitely be doing a few more bits myself from now on.

Very happy with myself! smile

Well done.

I normally feel a combination of relief, exhaustion and pain after doing any kind of car DIY.
