Taxing an already taxed car??

A mate of mine just bought a car at an auction that does not have a tax disc in the window. Presumably it was taken out by the auction house. However when he checked online it is still showing as taxed until the 1st August. Is it possible for him to go and get a tax disc from the post office even though the car is still showing as taxed until the 1st August?

Yes, you can tax it & no you can't get a copy of the old one as you're not the registered keeper.

The previous owner has chopped the tax in but it takes about 6 weeks to process and the online system to catch up.
