Can I drop into a DVLA office to transfer a Number Plate?

Heard this is the easiest/quickest way. Obviously have all the relevant paperwork. Log books, MOT's and Insurance. Both cars are in The Misse's name, that ok. Thanks in advance.

I did it at Leeds a few weeks ago brlliant service, although at that office you can park outside, I understand Sheffield is a nightmare as no parking nearby and you just dont know how long you are going to be

Yes, I've done it. Best to arrive at a quiet time otherwise you are "de-prioritized" and it's posted to you.

I did this in Chelmsford at 4pm last Friday. I was in and out in less than 5 minutes.

Pity the Govt are going to close the majority of these regional offices down.

I wouldn't bother with the book, whenever I done this I've been back on the pavement in 5 minutes.

If you have the number on a retention certificate and the vehicle your putting it on is in your name and you have insurance, tax and MOT they'll do it there and then.

Issue you with a new MOT certificate, new tax disc and a paper to let you buy new plates, then you have 14 days to put on the new plates.

If you were to call your insurance there and then to change plate details you can put the plates on at the DVLA place and drive away all legal.

I've done both, waited a couple of days to fit plates and also fitted plates outside the DVLA.

If it's not on a certificate you can still go through the process at your local DVLA place but it'll take a couple of weeks to get it all sorted and the paperwork through, bare in mind they could ask you (at a lter date) to bring the vehicle in that you are taking the plate from, i had this once on a toyota surf and because the MOT and insurance had run out i had to trailor it 20 miles so they could just check the chassis number.

Going to transfer personal plate onto new car, and get age related put on old car. Have rememnbered to notify Insurnance Co, bet they want to charge an admin/rip off fee.
