Reaching 40 and want to pass car test.

As the title says really.
In a few months time I will be 40 and never passed my full car license, I NEED HELP.
To say I can't drive would be wrong, I have driven many motors from Capri's to jag and on to metro city unfortunately I never passed my test.
Without it my work has suffered, where I live and family life have all taken a set back in progressing forward.
Can anyone give me help in moving forward in life and get this obstacle out of my way.
All the above driving has been legall and have never broke the law, I had a carwash valeting business in my youth and was able to move them around.
I'm a security officer and on £8 hr and funds don't stretch to full on week courses.
Can anyone recommend any help for this useless git.

Well if you can drive then your already halfway there. You just need to learn all the theory and highway code stuff, as well as being able to drive "safely" so whilst you know how to use the clutch and steering wheel, you might not be using them how an examiner wants you to use them.

Best thing to do IMO is you book yourself in with an instructor, explain the situation and just ask if they can assess you and get you through the test.

They will be able to teach you all of the stuff you need to be doing and get you through your theory test. Actual driving around lessons will be minimal as you can already drive.

Booked a session for tomorrow, I really don't know how these young ones have been able to pass.

Six years since I passed my test but when I was practicing, there were very accurate interactive DVDs, Computer programs etc which were very representative of the real thing.

Get a theory test + hazard perception CD-ROM. The theory is mostly common sense and a bit of the highway code but the hazard perception is a load of illogical bks that has nothing to do with driving and you probably won't pass without practice unless you are very lucky.

Struggling with the thought of all the mental stuff, signs and breaking distance etc... Although I know these in the practical sense, it's the verbal delivery where I will fleck up on.
I have to say understanding what's required now as opposed to 10 years ago is very different. It feels more academic than the practical physical it was once required.
Let's see what tomorrow brings.

I passed 4 months ago, do a bit of reading and some of the DVDs and if you have any sense you will pass the theory easy.

If you can control a car then you're 3/4 of the way there you just need to learn what the tester wants from you and do it.

Its not THAT difficult so don't be put off any longer.

It's all multiple choice and hazard response, you don't have to write or say anything in the theory test.
Study the practice tests - and you'll be fine, you don't need to pay anyone to teach you to pass the theory test.

The actual (practical) driving test is still pretty much the same as ever I believe.

A friend of mine took her test about a year ago, she was 40. She had failed several times due to nerves.

I'll give you the same advice I gave her. Watch a few episodes of Jeremy Kyle, and tell yourself that most of the guests on there will have passed a driving test! So if they can do it, anyone can. She passed.

Do you mean you have a driving lesson tomorrow? Speak to your instructor about the theory test, I'm sure they'll give you loads of help. The hazard perception is the one to practice as you can probably wing it on the theory with some common sense. All the tests are quite straightforward when you understand what is required to pass.
