Temporary Insurance

Does anyone have experience of temporary insurance?
I recently bough a 50% share in a 4x4 with a friend of mine for the odd day green-laning, it was cheap (£250) with 12 months ticket & a bit of tax (bought from a friend who wanted rid).
I was going to get insurance as & when i needed it, which was abou £20 for a weekend, however i've just sold my car, so i need to insure the 4x4 for a month until i find myself something new (i managed to co-incide selling my car with my insurance for it ending, so can't just switch over for a couple of weeks)!
I've tried a few sites via Google & i'm getting some pretty hefty premimes (£200) for 28 days cover & they'll only insure me if the cars worth £1500!
Obviously the cars not even worth a third of that at best!
I was curious if anyone could point me in the direction of a company they might of used previously?

If you're planning on getting another car to replace it wouldn't it be easier to just insure the 4x4 as normal and then switch the policy to your new car when it arrives?

I would usually do this, however for the new car i'm going to a 'specialist' broker as they can offer me a much better deal than any of the usual companies for the new car!
