It's funny this should come up, especially after the would Alfa sell more if they built RWD, thread that came up a couple of days ago. However apparentyl Alfa and Mazda will be working together on a new RWD light weight roadster based on the MX-5. Have to admit I am excited by this prospect as together they should be able to pull off something wonderful, although I can't help but have a slight niggly worry that this could be another Alfa Romeo Arna waiting to happen.

If it's got decent Alfa styling then I'm excited - Mazda have nailed the light(ish) RWD roadster, hopefully they won't try and make it too tech.

If it's got Alfa's current styling, it'll be uglier than the MX5. frown

Let's hope they get the best of both worlds, rather than the worst of both...
Can you say "Arna", children?

Think it was Auto car that mooted Fiat and Mazda working together. MultiAir plus SkyActive could be interesting!

Rather different type of car. the 4C will probably end up about twice the price of the MX5.

Interesting that they'll be using different engines. I wonder what Alfa will put in it, given that fiat group have nothing obviously suitable that's been engineered for longitudinal installation.

Thats my biggest worry is that yet again it all goes tits up and we end up with an Arna Mk II, which lets face it, nobody in any frame of mind, right or wrong, will be wanting

I don't see that as being a good comparison taking into account that the Rernault Sport Megane has a completely different USP and segment placement in comparison to what will be a small light weight RWD roadster

It was a facetious comment about Evo's recent Subaru BRZ review, from which one could only conclude that engineering a proper sporting platform with rear drive, fully independent suspension, low CoG, low weight and a great weight distribution is a complete waste of time when the end product isn't as good as a tweaked shopping car.

So what Alfa could well have, is a smallish, lightweight, 2 seater sportscar. They need to call it the Spyder really lets be honest...

In that case I must say sorry for my response, this is what happens when you aren't aware of the context lol (Or read EVO clearly lol)
