If my Tiv sells i'll want something to use evenings and weekends (use a van for work) and what with the summer coming i thought...

A ratty old Landy, seen a light weight (even better!) with a V8 up front and no roof on top...if it rains then err, get wet? and it'll have shelter at night.

As long as it's got ticket (the i am eyeing up has) and is solid i couldnt care less about the rest! Maybe give it a satin black spray or roller paintjob?

Before anybody asks, yes, i have owned a crusty old Landy before and am aware of their foibles... i'm also spanner handy and have a workshop and a wide range of hammers wink

So, sily idea?

The idea of such a beast to smoke to the pub and back in on a balmy eve makes me smile! V8, no roof and the brutish looks of a landy! Plus nobody would nick or vandalise a scruffy old bus either!

I may been talking myself into this a lot....

Yes, very silly. Now get back to ebay and continue your search for a well priced 560SEC! hehe

What he said.

Seriously though, couldn't go far wrong with a battered V8 landy, although the fuel consumption would be horrific (worse than a 560 from what I've heard).

I did it. (V8 SWB SIII, "convertible", satin black paint job)

I sold it. (about 8 years later)

I regret it.

I'm leaning towards purchasing a SII which I know is languishing nearby in search of a new home.

Does that help? biggrin

I just sold my 135i and bought a Jeep Wrangler 4.0 s6.

It’s slower, it’s bumpier, it’s louder, it’s nowhere near as comfortable or refined.
I can’t stop grinning when I drive it.

Modern sports cars on modern roads are a waste of time.
Old 4x4s with no roofs are the new black.

Bloke around the corner from me has a shortened Range Rover (bobtail?) with massive wheels and an open exhaust system. Sounds great, looks great and always brings a smile to my face! Doesnt drive it fast, but makes sure the engine is used - what can be better? Love it.

Be different, why the hell not?

Having experienced the delights of intimidating sheds before, i can vouch for the fact that no one cuts you up, pulls out in front of you, or tailgates you.

Get it bought biggrin

As long as its got a reasonable length ticket, the rest is all easy peasy...ish wink

I currently have half a dozen LR parts on my desk at work waiting to be fitted to my battered series 3 smile

I am moving to the country and this thread has just given me an idea!!

One of these would be a great way to learn home mechanics as well.
