As embarrasing as this is im sure im not the first :embarassed:

well i was in a rush to get going the other evening and was aware that my oil was very low so i threw some in stupidly not checking afterwards anyway long story short i have a lot more oil in than i was planning and have already driven 250 motorway miles and 60 A road driving (plus through towns) on it!

noticed today that it was hesitating alot whilst slowly accelerating and throwing out A hell of a lot more smoke than normal especially under a heavy right foot... i then clicked, stopped and checked that it was way above what it should. its now not going to move from my drive til i manage to get hold of a mates trolley jack to drop some out.

think it will have done any damage?

its on a mk4 tdi golf pd130

i have put in just over a litre and the dipstick is in the picture below... maybe im just the big dipstick :undecided:

bit blurry from trying to hold the torch, dipstick and my phone, not a good day!

My sister done it to her car once before, she was told to keep driving to burn off the extra oil and hasn't had any further problems

And why do you suggest that? All he needs to do is drop out a litre or so into a can, then top back up if he needs to.

Syphon some out

http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_tr...

It's how many garages change the oil on your car (they might use a more sofitikated machine but in essence it's the same method)

I did this once in my MR2 I was young and stupid over filled the oil went for a drive only to get a massive black cloud of smoke out the back of the car. Our mechanic thought the turbo had gone and then remembered it was an NA think he drove a fair distance to burn the oil off.

I'm hoping that's a reference to a previous thread from some time ago.

I can't say for the modern bits like partical filters and sensors.

But mechanically if it was going to damage it, it would have happend in seconds. And it would be lots of broken bits. But you would need a lot more oil to have hydraulicing problems.

Because the oil is clean? Just a bit too much of it.

Oh, it's not a tongue in cheek response...

Well, in that case, I'd get a new engine. Can't be too careful these days.

Because it's not needed, that's why not.

If you had to put air in your tyre, Would you buy a new tyre because 'why not?' ?

Potentially save yourself some hassle and buy this: http://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/product/details/...

It will do the job in about a minute.

As long as the engine is running ok now then it will be fine.

(do a double oil and filter change to be sure)
