Maybe its my age, but boy do I hate driving when Britain gets one of its rare heat waves. Is it me, or does everyone just go bezerk? Too many drivers busy trying to look cool and not paying any attention to the road. Too many people thinking they are participating in the Monaco GP and going totally potty in busy traffic...convertibles with roof down and hoofing it down busy backroads at lunatic speeds....Saw a bloke in an Alfa 156 tonight absolutely nailing it around a very busy roundabout near me in rush hour traffic, its mad! Anyone else actually just glad to get home in one piece tonight?

Strange, I've found the opposite round here (South Coast).

Everyone seems to be driving round a bit more slowly, a bit less hectically, and more noncholantly. Cruising round, no hurry, enjoying the weather, being pleasant to fellow motorists, big smiles.

I've noticed a lot more chilled-out courtesy in the last few days - people waving you out of junctions, people waving you to 'go first - I'll wait here' type of thing. A bit less, I dunno, selfish?

i have to admit I do drive faster in the weather. It just feels great and I probably annoy people but it is all legal and safe..

Don't forget all the bloody bikers everywhere!

Actually, I got overtaken by a coach on the way home tonight. Too bloody hot to have the visor down so was cruising with the lane 1 crew, visor up and arm vents set to max.

I've been driving nearly everywhere with the roof down, smoothly, steadily, as you'd imagine.

At least once per trip, though, some nutter will try to harass me/take me on/gesticulate wildly at me.

People are going completely mental. Is it the recession? Is it the hot weather? Is it something in the soylent green?

People cutting eachother up on roundabouts, overtaking over double white lines, tailgaiting far more than usual, even getting out of their cars at traffic lights to have a rant at me. It's all a bit odd.

Agree, Sussex has been quite chilled, even the morning rush hour queue on the A27 through the top of Worthing saw folk waving at each other in rag tops and everyone embarking in 'Christian' motoring...

Theory 1, toxoplasmosis.
Theory 2, simply heat.
They have done research on rioting and it always happens at a particular air temperature. Warm enough to enrage, not so warm as to cause lethargy.

Going up the A1 from South Mimms I found that most of the traffic was happy to sit at about 60mph in lane 1 and leave lane 2 totally clear (!). Much prefer this to normal traffic.

Was going to start my own thread about it but today went up to mansfield to pick up my kit car it's a 3 hour journey from south wales ended up being bit over 4 and the same coming home.

First off got delayed by someone running down the street with a flame and people chearing at him something to do with the olympics mayby. Then the bloody roadworks on the m50 everybody wanting to cut in at the very last minute even a lorry did this nearly causing a crash. Then you got the lorry overtaking lorry move which takes 3 miles. Then stupid signs saying 40mph speed limit over the motorway which cause everyone to brake even when there wasn't anything to slow the traffic down.

Everyone was inches away from the car infront some tt in a audi cut across 4 lanes of traffic to exit the motorway. On the way back witnessed 4 seperate crashes one on the M1 j24 where the car was facing oncoming traffic but oddly with no tyre marks. One on the m42 2 cars tailgating ended up hitting each other also 2 on the m50 1 small nudge to the other car in front and the other was a nasty 3 car pile up.

It was unbelivable we need a major rethink of driving policy becasue im surprised not more people are killed by the way i say some drivers driving today im glad i don't have to use the motorway network regulary.

found traffic to be very relaxed and cheery here up north, but by god where did all the convertibles spring from?

And motorbikes absolutely everywhere.

Might have spotted me too!

I am not sure if I'm driving much faster or just that a lot of other people are driving slower so I'm constantly overtaking people. I suppose I am driving faster than I do when it's wet and maybe everyone is still driving at the same speed.

Lol, gets me annoyed when I see a matrix sign setting a 40/50 limit then the next matrix says "end". However I do believe it's purpose is to (obviously) slow traffic down with the intentions of stopping traffic getting too close to one another - as when they get too close at speed, it sets off a domino-effect which in-turn causes a "tailback". Or maybe I'm just totally wrong. Meh!
