Watching the F1 this afternoon got me thinking: could you, on a budget of £5k, buy a car suitable to drive to Monte Carlo from the UK that would still look the part and draw appreciative looks when parked outside a cafe/casino whilst there, then happily run you back home again?

Actually, just seen a '72 Citroen DS on Ebay for £3.5k that with the remainder spent on it could fit the bill..

Probably. I remember someone on here drove down there in an Elise and that got alot of attention as its so rare down there. I assume you wouldn't want to go on your own though and its 1800 miles round trip so its best to have something reasonably comfortable.

You'd be able to pick up a respectable looking Bentley Mulsanne / Eight / Brooklands type thing for that kind of cash.

Had no idea the Bentleys were that cheap! Good shout on the Merc SL too, very nice.

Bit Teutonic..?

If you can find an elise for under 5k, with change for fuel crossings and tolls, show me where now. I have cash waiting!

Always wanted an elise and was saving for a S1 but price just dont seem to have gone down for S1's at all and have if anything gone up! Seems like a lot of money for even an average one now, and you can get a lot of car for the money from other marques in that price range!

Spot of bartering and this should do the trick (yes it's a cat D but no one will know), and you can go and enjoy the roads in the hills as well.

Took my 2.8 Capri to Monaco as part of the grand tour this year, drove through the tunnels and parked between two Ferraris at the Marina, definitely get more looks than just another Italian supercar!

You could buy a cracker for £5k, they have a practical boot,30+mpg on a run and zero depreciation, get one bought!

I was going to say a cat c/d VX. People who don't know what it is seem to think its a £30k+ car.
