Good roads between London and Bristol?

Evening gents
I'm posting on behalf of a friend who can't register right now, and as the title says hes looking for good driving roads between here(London) and Bristol.
Hes only driving for the sake of driving so they can be a little out of the way, he doesn't need to arrive anywhere at a certain time or anything.
If any of ye have any recommendations that would be great!

ETA: He has just told me he does need to end up in bristol to meet a friend, so maybe nothing too far out of the way.

I am the guy Alex was talking in behalf of, problem was sorted out.
I sort of need to end up in Bristol as I am meeting a mate of mine there, time is sort of irrelevant as I am going to leave very early in order to have lots of time in front of me.
I went to the Surrey hills area today,as recommended here, the drive was alright although my gps kept wanting to take me through motorways and such. That's the reason we thought it would be better to ask here, PHs know their stuff.
Anyway, back on topic, the car I am driving is a 508 GT. The sort of roads would probably be some twisties.
Thing is, I am not from around here, mid-journey waypoints would be of great help.

The A420 has some tight twisties near the vilage of Ford of alternatively:
When you leave Chippenham on the A420, turn off right and pass Castle Coombe circuit.
Keep following that road until you cross over the M4 then take the next left on the kink in the road.
Follow that road to the main road just north of J18 of the M4 on the A46,
Follow the A46 south towards Bath until you get to the 3rd turning right where there is a filter lane to turn right.
At the end of that road go right on the A420 to Brizzol.
