Is this a silly idea...?
Discussion
So I'm sick to death of my current daily - it's a '07 Peugeot 207 with 26k on the clock. Car is in it's most basic trim, no AC, crap engine etc. Worth about £3.5k private sale and I have nothing really to add to that at the moment.
I need a daily for work that's comfy, cheap to run, won't fall to pieces going over numerous speed-humps throughout the day as I use it for work around London.
Thoughts:
Spend £2k+ on something like a Mk4 Golf (with AC!!) and hope it doesn't go wrong
Spend the rest on something fun for the weekend (Mx5, MR2 or a barge)
Question is, am I mad doing this given a lack of spare funds at the moment?

Double tax, double insurance, double MOT!
Get something which will fit both uses. Big engines are good value to buy at the moment!
Urban mpg an issue atm. But perhaps you guys are right.Get something which will fit both uses. Big engines are good value to buy at the moment!
In which case, am I mad trading from current low mileage POS to higher mileage more comfy, more fun car?

suggestions welcome
What about spending the whole amount on a younger MX5 ?I see there are some round that price in the classified that also include hardtops, bound to be more practical for year round motoring.

If that is the genuine mileage for the 328 then they would be a great buy. I had one of those that was over 200K when I sold it, and still going strong. Lovely car.http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/sales/3730299.htm - not done much research as it's 6am and I'm shattered.

Cars are so cheap in the UK, it's the one thing I miss!
