If BMW is chucking 4000 cars at it, is it likely that Autumn will see a glut of used models on the market?

There's thousands of them all parked up on the dockside at Dartford.

A lot of the cars such as the MINI E won't ever appear on the market, they'll return to their home in Munich - suspect the same for the Electric 1-Series too.

But yes, there'll probably be a load of ex-demo 320d's on the market after the games.

Well the Mini is British built. The biggest reason however is likely that BMW were prepared to pay the most to be an official sponsor of the games. Something that's out of the hands of 'UK Plc'

Presuming they are RHD, what will they do with these though?

How many manfacturers in Britain build the range of cars & bikes they are using?

As far as i know all the manufacturers suitable build one model or 2

Very much this and the above comment on investment from BMW. The range of cars and bikes is large enough to cover almost every aspect.

These cars are all going to come into the dealer network after the olympics

You will be able to tell they are olympic / press cars from their numberplate.

I know of a senior BMW Director who retired recently who is waiting for them to be off loaded into the network so he can pick up a cheap new generation 5 series.


Hopefully the dealers wont mug off the public by calling them 'ex-directors cars' as they like to do with the press cars.

Also, I hope someone is counting how much fuel is used, and how many miles are driven. Ferrying people around London, there is no chance of them getting 65mpg...

having seen how a couple of the ones around canary wharf have been driven i'm not so sure i'd want one. I suppose the same is true for lots of similar lease cars though.

Presumeably it won't be anything as obvious as the Olympic logo on the plates, so what are we looking for?

All MINI E's are LHD, they made them a couple of years ago for a field trial, you could lease one off MINI for six months, and they collected data etc.

All potential Olympic fleet providers had to achieve an average of less than 120 g/km CO2 across the entire fleet of Olympic vehicles. Jaguar Land Rover might have struggled a little with that! Someone else mentioned the investment from BMW which is quite significant in the UK, so I guess that supports UK manufacturing
