Cat D Repairable on Ebay & a flying Pig!
Discussion
Just seen this on ebay:

How in all that is holy is that "cat D - repairable"???
The nearside is crumpled right into the rear door and the offside shows signs of deformation by the rear wheelarch, not to mention the nearside rear wheel is about 4" further forward than it should be!
Is this really a Cat D??

It looks pretty mint apart from the back end and doesn't seem that bad. Once stripped and given a quick tug it'd look a lot better.
It's not an obvious cat c, that's for sure. At the end of the day, the shells are spot welded together, so unpick it amd weld on new bits and it would straighten ok.
Suspension looks fairly ok, but may have had a tweak. I'd think it was assessed at about 9 to 10k to repair via insurance bodyshops.

I thought Cat Ds didn't need any repair work to keep using the vehicle.
Obviously not in that case! That's knackered. Not even low mileage for it's age.
CAT D is light panel damage, I'd say thats more of a CAT B as the support beam at the rear had been pushed well back!Obviously not in that case! That's knackered. Not even low mileage for it's age.

If it were cat b it would be a spares only car. No need to break that one up.
Cat. D is generally repairable but not done due to non-repair factors making repair uneconomical (i.e. hire car costs etc). Cat. C is the repair itself being uneconomical (which I'd say this should be, needing a whole new rear end).
Cat. B is bad enough that it's beyond rejigging to get it back on the road, so spares only.

And Cat A must be destroyed totally, not even for spares.Cat. B is bad enough that it's beyond rejigging to get it back on the road, so spares only.
I certainly doubt that's a Cat D...
I had a poke around a salvage yard recently. It's all to do with the car's value (pre, and possibly post, accident).
Two examples at opposite ends of the spectrum:
A 61 plate Fiesta, with just SIXTY, 60, 6....zero.....miles on the clock. Very heavy frontal, both legs completely done it, and it's a Cat D.
Merc A class, much older, but it needs a headlight and a wishbone to start driving it again; Cat C.
As above, all down to the vehicle's value and not (necessarily) a true representation of the extent of the damage.
