Steel Seal liquid gasket repair- any experiences?
Discussion
Anyone ever used this? They make big claims- add to your cooling system for a permanent guaranteed repair for cooling system leaks, including head gaskets...This particular brand is not cheap at £35 per bottle, (I need 2 for a 3 litre engine) but then I would be looking at a very expensive repair if I went for a new gasket- V6 engine, so 2 gaskets, actually, and the car is not worth a huge amount, so in raw economic terms, new gaskets do not stack up.
Interested to hear of any experiences before throwing £70 at the problem...

General (generic) answer is 'no'.
Fix the problem properly if you intend to keep the car.
No specific experience, sorry.

I agree wholeheartedly with the above quote ..... however !, a couple of years ago my Wifes 306 (diesel) runabout started bubbling in the header tank, and pressurising the system. I used steel seal. We did another 10k in that car without any further problems. Now that was a £500 car, that I wasn't going to pay for an expensive repair for, or that we were planning to keep. So if it is a decent car, and one that you are going to keep, I would suggest buying 2 gaskets and getting your tool kit out. Fix the problem properly if you intend to keep the car.
