Is bloody annoying. I've got a wedge of cash burning a right hole in my pocket, but can't find a car with quite the specification I'm after.

Ok, I'm at the lower end of the market, and no doubt most people will tell me to put up with what's available, but my budget is actually well above what I'm looking for. I think the problem is that with the year I'm after a lot will have already gone to the scrappers frown

Which is sad.

If anyone knows of a half-decent Rover 75, on a W, X (or possibly one on a Y) plate only, within a reasonable distance from East Yorkshire, let me know!

Don't be daft. There are plenty of decent ones about - just not in the age bracket and spec I'm looking for!

Yes, but again, not within the age range specified and spec level.

You are doing the right thing by posting about it.

After wasting my time (and petrol) visting dealers to see cars that were not as described, I posted in the specialist section of PH for the car I was after and asked if there were any private owners looking to sell. A week later I was the owner of the exact colour and spec car I was after - with 18 months extended warranty; the seller being a 1/2 hour drive up the road. It can, and does, work.

Best of luck.

Good to hear! Although the Rover forums on here are a little quiet. I am a member over at 75andztclub or whatever it's called, and am keeping an eye out there and getting myself acquainted with the locals smile

What's your exact spec, such as engine etc, I'll keep my eyes peeled in Doncaster.

Thank you, kind sir!

Any petrol engine (1.8, 2.0 or 2.5), either Connoisseur or Connoisseur SE spec, with door torpedos (a lot were built with that deleted as per the options sheet frown) and ideally on a W or X plate. May stretch to a Y plate though.

In which case it will simply be a case of waiting for the right car to come to you. A post on the 75 forum should present some replies, although if you are after a specific spec you might need to be a little more flexible regarding distance. I got lucky, but the car I viewed the week before was a 300 mile round trip..

Why the reluctance to take a newer example should one present itself?

Basically because there are various bits the older cars had, but the newer cars didn't. All retro-fittable, but judging by ebay prices for bits it'd cost me a pretty penny!

Forgive my lack of encyclopedic Rover knowledge, but WTF?

What about the bumper canons and ejector seats?

To miss the cost cutting after BMW sold off MGR I guess. I know a few bits like the anti roll bars were rmoved from the 75s (Although left on the ZTs) after the split.

Yes, those too please!

These:

So at £13 I could fit those myself, but, I'd probably never get them straight frown

It would appear so.

I am, however, looking for a petrol.
