...your car does or has that make you smile

For instance I was topping up the windscreen washer fluid on the weekend and I noticed I had headlamp washers, pulled the stick and they didnt go off, turned the lights on and voila, a really simple little thing but it made me smile that someone went to the effort

Also my intermittent wipers can be adjusted by about 8 levels, one of the handiest things I have had on a car again not hugely needed but very nice that its there

My favourite was on my E30 though, I thought the Miles Remaining guage was wildly innacurate as it would jump from 19 miles to 64 miles, it was only after a while I realised it was adjusting itself based on the fuel light, so it was 19 miles til fule light then 64 miles once the light was on

It was like a little free gift of fuel smile

Anyone else got simple pleasures in their car?

Lights underneath the door handles that light the pavement below and also illuminate the car in the dark. Very nice touch.

Ah yes nice one

To add to that my dads Freelander 2 has a thing whereby when he parks up and gets out having had the headlights on they stay on for a minute after he has got out to light the way to the door

I've got this on my Leon. First car I've had it on and it's really good.

FIAT Uno - if you pulled the front seats forward then rolled the backrests all the way back the interior turned into quite a usable double bed, albeit one with a gearstick.

Stalks that illuminate. To date the only car I've owned that's done this was my G plate MG Maestro 2.0 EFI.

When you select reverse with the wipers on, it automatically activates the rear wiper for you. Forget which vehicle, Land Rover of some type.

I may be talking complete balls, but I'm sure I was told that the battery in my Range Rover Sport keyfob was charged through the key when in the ignition, therefore the battery would never need to be replaced.

Or something.

If this wasn't true, then someone needs to develop it, as it is a great idea! smile

I don't know if it's true or not. But they generally use lithium button cells in keyfobs. These can't be charged, you'd need some form of Li-ion type cell for that. Not sure one small enough exists. You'd also need multiple contacts on the key to charge it most likely. IMR cells shouldn't be over discharged and ICR cells need protective circuitry to stop them catching fire (hence most cell phone batteries have 3 contacts or more on them).

Also a rechargeable cell will need replacing at some point as you can only charge them 'x' number of times.

Lastly rechargeable cells normally have a higher self discharge rate, which would be a bit of a PITA on your backup set of keys vs non rechargeable cells which might be good for 10 years if used in frequently.

on start up the whole car shakes a little. not in a "old and cack on its last legs" kind of way but in a "i have a vette engine" kind of way.

I've had a few comments about these "oh good look at that, the handles light up biggrin" It seems to make people happy. Its about 0.2p of LED.

Thank you for Lotus/Vauxhall making sure every edge was razor sharp on my VX220.

Every single day I worked on it for a week I managed to cut myself, my hands looked like I have been bare knuckle boxing.

Variably adjustable wiper speeds.
The fact that the car will not lock without the key being outside - if you push down the door pins, when you close the door, they just pop back up.
Speed-sensitive power assisted steering.

These aren't unique to that model, but great features in a cheap car.

I believe that it's a Fomoco patent, which is why Land Rover would use it. I was told about it years ago on a friend's work Transit. It was mentioned in the handbook too.
I could be wrong about the Ford patent, but I know it's used in the Ford empire. To what extent I couldn't say.

On my car, whatever level your wipers are on, when you stop in traffic it goes down one level (so if you have it on normal, it goes to intermittent, if you have it on fast it goes to slow). When you start moving again, it reverts to the original setting.

Also, when one of the rear light bulbs goes, it warns you that it's gone but in the meantime it uses the brake light at 50% intensity to compensate! I mean, how cool is that?!

Automatic lights in my Z4.

Seemingly a meaningless addition, but very useful smile

The overdrive unit on my old MG. There's something so nice about flicking the overdrive on and off either to get an extra amount of revs mid overtake or to tackle a bend without having to change down.

On my Yaris there are a few things.
A really simple and easy to use steering wheel stereo control
Rear seats that slide backwards and forwards increasing boot space or rear leg room
A handle to pull the boot lid down
