Afternoon chaps, quick question, where do you guys look for cars?

I have tried on here, AT and Gumtree but am now stumped as to where to look next.

Admittedly I don't have a huge budget, a meager thousand pounds, and I am looking for something RWD and fun. Before Anybody says it, yes, I know, mx-5 rolleyes (if you were going to say it, tosser) but finding cars for a grand or less is seemingly very bloody difficult. How much of this is due to the wonderful scrappage scheme I do not know but cheap cars certainly seemed easier to find before that bd scheme was launched.

I would start perusing owners sites but most want me to register and give them a couple of pages of details so I can scan through a couple of pages of cars for sale and im the majority of cases there isn't anything there to buy anyway. Pointless.

I am also hindered by living in South Wales, seemingly everybody in South Wales has sold their interesting/fun car and bought a fiesta, corsa, mondeo etc, so all I can find in the ads are boring boxes. Seriously, unless I drive 100 miles I can't find anything in price and interesting. It sucks.

Any ideas?

Cheap and rear wheel drive your other 2 places would be eBay, or possibly Driftworks, you can view their for sale section without signing up.

Found something interesting on driftworks (after being forced to register), tried to message someone and my account needs to be not only activated by myself but also activated by a moderator too. Excellent.

That's changed recently then I think. The mods are quick to activate usually though. I signed up a while ago to ask advice on S15 Nissan Silvia's, not logged in for about 3 years though.

For sub grand stuff I almost always use the local rag. There's all sorts in there, and I usually get what I want for less than it was listed for after a good haggle.

Almost as if on que, as soon as my account was authorised the site went down for maintenance rofl

The way this whole car buying experience is going I think I'm better off sticking with my golf...

You could try carandclassic.co.uk there are loads of cars for that kind of budget there.

I'm suprised to hear you approaching it so negatively though, I love shopping for cars (even when I can't afford them) it's part of the fun.

I also agree with the above newspapers are a good port of call.

Don't get me wrong, I love looking for cars. I really do.

The frustration arises from having helped 2 of my friends to buy cars in past weeks, they have both found great cars for a good price that weren't too far away at all.

I, on the other hand, have had fk all luck looking for cars, having only seen 2 that interest me within my budget or within a certain (very reasonable) distance (over a hundred miles). The first I called to find that the car had been withdrawn from sale, the second I have been trying to get a viewing on since sunday but the seller keeps messing about like the prick that he is. There have been others but not within a viable distance or have been out of budget.

I am losing my rag with it and beginning to think I should just keep my piece of st golf, beat it until it dies and then buy some good walking shoes and save the cash because there certainly isn't anything that interests me for sale anywhere fking near Swansea. Honestly, after a fortnight I can't find anything worth buying.

I just grabbed the local paper to have a look. There wasn't even 2 whole sides of cars in it. All were utter st.

Well, a quick scan within 100 miles of Swansea finds:

Porsche 944 LUX FH 2DR 2.5 for £995
A couple of Imprezas at <£1k (4wd, but fun)
A bunch of MGFs (bit different and mid/rear)
An MR2
AN XJ Sovereign...

What are your other criteria?

When we bought the Wife's car we used http://www.trade-it.co.uk but not sure how close to you they will be.

It's free to advertise on there so you get all sorts.

This has been a bit barry'd but you get the idea http://www.trade-it.co.uk/cars-nissan-skyline/regi...
