03.30 this morning near Bedford and my colleagues were rudely interrupted by this.....

18yr old lad driving. The Police estimated his speed as 60mph. Afew minutes earlier, there was a gang taking the crossing out. Luckily they were clear by the time this clown showed up.

I would imagine so. If the crosssing is coming out, the road is always closed. The only access being to frontages. People do ignore the signs though sometimes.

You'd really have thought a road closure/ diversion would have been put in place prior to such work, with plenty of warning signs...

Yes, pretty much. The crossings are taken out so that the track can be lifted to correct cross-level errors and realigned.

My thoughts also, if he was doing 60mph he wouldn't be sat on the rails.

Might have been doing 60 when he spotted there was no crossing fifty feet before he hit the rails..

To the hard of thinking it means drive around signs as they cannot be bothered

to find an alternative
