Fun runaround for £5k to be kept in France

....that needs to be able to carry 3 people i.e. a 2+2 would work
This is the requirement that my mate and his wife have - his wife's parents are moving to France and they will be visiting pretty regularly. They're looking to buy a car out there, they'll be paying for it, but the parents will be paying for maintenance/consumables as they'll be using occasionally as a runaround. Needs to be a little fun as they'll be using on their hols effectively and they have a 996 911 here.
Any ideas? I've come up with Clio 172/182 or an Alfa 147 V6 if in budget.
