How much longer will we have to wait before this junction is upgraded?

Fatalities and closures are a regular occurrence here.

Yep,because stupid people stop on the main carriageway to try and jump into the queue in the A14 lane. A 40 ton truck doing 56mph will most certainly run into the back of anything that is "parked" on the motorway. Sensible driving would cut accidents to a minimum.

And to think they spent all that cash and time on the M1 bridges at Catthorpe...why the hell didn't they do the job properly?... I hate the junction....it is an insult to call it an interchange...with a passion and try to use it at the "quieter" times if I can. I have to use it next Wednesday the 20th on my way to the West Midlands, still quicker than going via Northampton and across to Worcester for me.
My thoughts are with the drivers family

Could you use the M69 instead? That's a much nicer road than that bd junction...

Hope the drivers family get all the support they need.

I also hate it & go round if it's queued going east. Normally I'll come off at J1,A426 head for Shawell & Swinford head across the lanes & pick up the A5199, failing that I'll take J18,M1,A428 to West Haddon then up to Cold Ashby & pick up the A5199 that way.

Both a long way round but I never find my self wanting to queue at Catthorpe.

Wow, I was near the head of the queue when all south carriageways were stopped. Driving past saw tents round the cab and thought that couldn't just be for the rain. Terrible really, poor bloke.

As a trucker myself, everyone wants to be in front of the truck and will happily risk their lives to make it happen, relying on the trucker to make space for them (read: forcing them to). It doesn't mention anything about cars being involved in this latest fatality but I'll bet it was down to someone cutting in front a bit further up which then forced everything else to slam on and the trucker couldn't stop in time.

As a short term solution they could improve the junction on the M6S ten-fold by making lane 3 M1S only and lanes 1 and 2 for the A14 and M1N. It only needs to be for a couple of miles and as the junction is at a crawl there most of the time anyway then the trucks doing 56 in lane 3 holding up the BMW brigade wanting to do 90 won't really be an issue. The problem at the moment is that the trucks for the M1S get into lane 2 to avoid the queues for the A14 in lane 1, but you get all the 'can't wait' brigade cutting across from lane 3 with 100 yds til the slip ends, then standing on the brakes in lane 2 with the left indicator on hoping to barge their way into a non-existent gap. The end result of this is that the truck has to slam on which causes a concertina effect to everything behind it and everyone stoves into the back of each other - some losing their lives in the process - while the guy/gal who caused it is oblivious to the carnage they've just caused and carries on with their day.

Used to get this same thing happen on the M62 at Lofthouse (M1 junction). If you wanted to go on the M1 from the M62 you had no choice but to get in lane 1 and exit the slip road along with everyone else. In peak times it was a nightmare and you'd get a 1.5 mile long queue of stationary traffic in lane 1 back to Tingley. But just like the Catthorpe, you got the 'can't wait' lot that left it til 100 yds in lane 2 then slammed on to wait for a gap. They solved this problem overnight by making lanes 1 and 2 for the M1 only and lanes 3 and 4 for the M62E only. Now there is never any queue there and everyone plods along just fine. They need to do the same at Catthorpe.

It is all down to rude impatient driving, no one gives an inch or lets anyone in or out of lanes now, it is almost a war zone approaching most big junctions now, people need to chill the fk out and show some common sense.
