A friend has bought a crysler crossfire last week.

It was sold with a fault on the ignition and needs a new barrel fitted. The garage is saying it is not their responsibility.

Is there something that can be quoted to say they should fix it.

Did the selling garage tell you friend about the problem before the car was bought?

They said the ignition was a bit clicky, they didn't say it was going to cease 24 hours later.

Why do people keep handing over money for cars with known faults?!

Yes, I'd say your mate almost certainly has the "right" to get it fixed either by the trade seller or at the trade seller's cost. Getting the seller to actually do it is another thing altogether. Start with a recorded delivery letter giving the seller a fair opportunity to rectify the fault. If he can't or won't then get it fixed at the main dealer and claim the cost from the seller. Fairly straightforward online procedure, but does involve a fee up-front.
