Went to the Canary Wharf Motor Expo yesterday...

Wow, I know the weather wasn't ideal but the turnout was particularly poor this year from exhibitors.
Very few big manufacturers, in fact the only bit that saved it were the H&H Auction house displays.
Still, here are some photos so you don't have to bother going...
New M5 looking menacing:

HR Owen had this LP570, a 458 and some other Masers just doing laps of CW constantly, sounded amazing:

These looked better in the metal:

SL63 looked better in the metal too, as did the C63:

The twin turbo V8 Conti sounded epic when they started it up and revved the nuts off it:

This was rather too yellow:

Love the XFR, especially with he new nose:

Tacky ltd ed M5 (already?!):

Love the 6er Gran Sport:

Optimus Bloody Prime!!! [/child]

JE Engineering showed off their Evoque which was a bit awful, and a rather tasty Defender:

And now the beauties from H&H:

Drop the damn nose you fools!!!

More loveliness:

Delicious BAC Mono:

And proof positive that Land Rovers are the coolest damn vehicles ever:

I've posted bits and pieces about the car before but I don't remember if there's a thread about the concept and construction.
Basically I wanted to re-create the route that a "gentleman racer" may have embarked on in the late 1950's early 1960's in commissioning/obtaining a sports racer from a small specialist company such as HWM, Cooper or whatever.
It's inevitable that it has similarities in appearance to the cars you mention as it was always intended to reflect the styling of that period.
The car is unique. The body was hand-built from scratch in aluminium after first making up a wooden buck. Virtually all of the fittings are either period or custom made for the car. This even includes the windscreen and the headlight glasses/surrounds.
The engine was built by Rob Beere racing and is a 4.7 litre unit. It really is an amazing bit of kit as it revs like a 3.4.
There are a couple of good articles on the car at the following links, but maybe I should have written-up the construction process myself.

I was working overseas at the time and even my colleagues got involved. One of them coming up with the badge design.

I've not been for a few years but last time I went it wasn't that big so if there aren't many manufacturers this year it must be nearly non existent! I hadn't realised it was still going as I'd not seen any ads for it for the last couple of years. 9I'm guessing they've been advertising in London itself only.)

Must have walked right past you!
Ah bugger it! I did think about sending out an email to those I know but it was all a bit last minute. We must meet up for a jar and a chinwag soon.
Must have walked right past you!
Er, going to Goodwood on the 28th too if you're going? (In an MP4-12C...

Excellent post.
Why might one need a Defender with tracks? What would they be used for?
It would be used for being awesome in very large quantities. Why might one need a Defender with tracks? What would they be used for?
Also, have just noticed the lamps aren't matching on the Fezza:

OCD overload!!!! Seriously though, a lamp like that costs about £20, get it sorted so they match!!!
