If you dont know how to go round a roundabout dont drive!.

I was on my way to dalkieth last night behind a young blonde lady, chewing chewing gum and music blairing.

I was going around the round about as if i was coming from town. The round about is clearly marked and you should stay in the same lane at all times. There is also light half way around the roundabout to let other traffic through. As we are going around the roundabout she decides to change line right in front of me no look, no indicator? just right over into my lane. I have never slammed on the brakes so hard in my life. She just carried on like nothing had happend untill we get to the next traffic light half way around the roundabout. Now sitting in the right lane to exit towards dalkieth. The light turn green and she cuts right across two lanes infront of other people and goes flying around the roundabout another 3 exits down.

Although i have only just passed my test and i am no expert, this is the worst driving i have ever seen.

Whats your experience of roundabouts?

tt infront of me on my way to work this morning.

Dual carriageway, I'm in the outside lane as we approach a 2 lane roundabout, right lane is right and straight, the other is straight over only to continue the dual carriageway.

He was about a car length infront as we got to the roundabout, I proceed to take the lane I am suppose to and he straight lines the roundabout. I have to brake and tuck right into the centre but despite my extremely hard braking I felt the car nudged left by the kerb on the roundabout.

Not impressed and as I overtake the knob, I just shake my head and he is on his phone, with a fking chocolate bar in his other hand!

YOu will see this kind of thing on a daily basis. WHat you described is a perfectly ordinary occurance. Its equivalent to starting a thread with a long-winded post about how much you like cornflakes for breakfast and why.

Accept the fact that there are lots and lots of awful drivers on the road and you will a)be a better driver yourself as you don't make assumptions about others and b)you wont get angry about it.
If you are startled by st driving, you will also be angry and it is pointless because the person who you are angry at is invariably so oblivious to anyone else on the road that they won't even know you're angry.

Don't worry, as you get more experience you will get better at not putting yourself in the way of other people's mistakes.

The ones that really annoy me are the ones who indicate right when on the left lane of the roundabout but they are actually going straight on.

Experience has told me never go side by side with anyone on a roundabout these days.

Haha! That's more horribly true than I'd care to think about. Most of my driving (certainly on the daily commute) is avoiding the stupidity of others.

It's not a death trap.

Wikipedia says this

the roundabout provides a better throughput of traffic than other designs and has an excellent safety record, since traffic moves too slowly to do serious damage in the event of a collision

Why did they not just have one big roundabout with lights like the ones they have on motorway slip roads?

Because that would of been sensible and add no excitment to your commute.

It's the general lack of indication at roundabouts that irks me.
