This is possibly the lamest advice request in the history of this esteemed website, but I need to ask the hive mind about roof boxes.

Sorry

We have a 2011 Volvo V60, but with the arrival of a baby we need more space if the dog is not to be strapped to the bonnet. I am looking at The Kamei Delphin 470 pack and the Thule Motion 800. Does anyone have any thoughts or recommendations? Obviously I need roof bars too, I think I will be ordering Thule bars, I'm just not sure if it will be square bars or wing bars. Are the aluminium wing bars worth the money? Just how much quieter are they?

Once again, my apologies for the dull subject. If only I'd managed to sterilise myself when I was younger I wouldn’t need this extra space and could have bought the Honda CR-Z that I really wanted.

I have a Halford roofbox. It is quite big, has a lock and has some bars.

Sorry, but that is all I remember about that particular car related purchase hehe

I'd love to help you but I just can't read beyond 'I am looking at The Kamei Delphin 470 pack'.

I've really tried. Sorry.

Never understood why modern babies take up so much space. Back in the day, my parents ran a motorcycle combo with 2 kids, and a Mini with 3 kids. We even managed annual holidays in Cornwall from London five up in the Mini.

Oh indeed, I spent my childhood kneeling on the transmission tunnel between the front seats of a Cortina.

And I meant CR-Z!

Sorry but why do you want to put the dog in a roof box? Surely that is not allowed?

Cut a nice big hole out the front and GripFill a bit of perspex into it, the drill out some 'ventilation holes and hey fookin presto. Mobile Kennel for Rover.

To the OP, try the Caravan Club or some other equally inane site.

Seriously though, Thule make some good quality kit but the Halfords stuff seems just as good. At least the dog will be comfy wink

Vauxhall Zafira 1.6 or motorbike with sidecar are your only options.

Absolutely agree with this, very cruel.... Put the baby in it.

Same situation here with new baby filling the boot with all his gear. We recently bought an Exodus one from Halfords seems pretty sturdy with strong hinges and quick fit system. Can't really offer much more at the end of the day it's a big plastic box.

Having had square roof bars making an annoyingly loud whistling for hours on long journeys I'd get the Thule wing ones, my mate has them on his S4 for the bike rack. They're well made and silent.

No idea about roof boxes, there are only two of us and a small dog in the Q7 and it's more of a problem loosing things than needing more space. Having said that all of the Thule stuff I've seen and used has been high quality.

Thats rubbish, when I was a lad there were 8 of us crammed onto a Triumph, including my fat aunt and we never complained.

Honestly, to save youself the hassle of being a tetris genius, get the roofbox...cheapest will do as long as the bars are sturdy, and enjoy the space.

Men dont like cramming and folding...those who say otherwise are just plain ol weird.

A Mondeo estate makes your life easier with nippers, a saloon has less space so makes your life more difficult full stop. A roof box on an estate makes you a genius Sir!

No it's not. Nowhere near...

This site will give you all the information you need. Good prices and excellent telephone advice. Sell bundles box/bars.

http://www.roofbox.co.uk/roof-boxes/

Try to get a box that will attach to aero bars with sliding T bolts (can't remember what they're called), rather than U bolts. These look much neater and need less faffing about to fit.

Note some boxes hinge to the left, some to the right and some from both sides.

They're really good at killing pigeons in flight, but this can unnerve following drivers...I know these things...hehe
